First Clay Craft (1)

On the island in Kratie, we programmed the first clay craft with the children.  Until now, clay has been sold at city stationery stores as something a little pricey.  Still, we wanted to have a clay craft activity at least once and we had planned to buy some.  Fortunately, cheaper products started to appear gradually around last summer.

In the meantime, slime also has become popular as a toy, and soon slime-like clay began to appear in stationery stores, too.  Unable to judge by appearance alone, I bought that softer product because it had a larger quantity and it was cheaper, which turned out that was not suitable for creating shapes.  I hope this slime-like product does not take over the market in the future.

Still, these products are only available in urban areas and are not yet commonly seen in rural areas.  This was also the first opportunity for the foster children to touch clay.

First, they practiced with colored clay, then made a memo clip holder out of white polymer clay, and finally painted it with watercolor.  We made this opportunity to create something that would be useful for children's study, not just touching and enjoying the cray.  Air-dry craft clay was not available locally, so it was donated from Japan.

Everyone appeared to enjoy this new experience very much, and many showed off their talents and individualities that are different from when they were drawing or making paper crafts.
