Art Award Ceremony Part 2

As for the art competition, we had actually selected national winners, too, in Battambang. But unfortunately they were absent because that day was not their school day. In order to avoid crowded classrooms, only half of children of each class come to school each day, according to the direction from public institutions. A half of children study at school on Mon, Wed, and Friday. Another half of children take classes on Tue, Thu, and Saturday.

And this time we visited a primary school in Neak Loeung, Prey Veng. We selected 1 winner from this school, too. The peace for this winner child was "the family is getting along."

Colors used in his drawing were limited with mainly yellow and brown. I wondered if color pens were not enough for everyone to freely use. However when I looked back photos of the activity day, some more pens were on his desk! Are those his favorite colors…? The people’s skirt and trousers in his drawings are colored with ordinary black pencil.

I somehow hope he can come to enjoy many more colors. The prize for him included a colorful art material set, stationery, a uniform, and sport shoes as the prize.

Here also we were planning to hold a parent meeting after this award ceremony with only whose who were available to join. The winner child’s mother was there! Only some teachers knew who would be awarded, and the mother was very pleased as well as her son.
