In the elder children’s sentence-making game, we also asked them for some writings. We asked them to write which words they drew and what sentences they made.
Some children wrote many sentences from the same given 2 words. It was ideal if children could write an explanation about the game and what they felt by playing the game… because these writing works were to be sent to their foster parents overseas. But most of them were just listing up their sentences.
And here, too, we let them express the scenes of their sentences by drawing.
As for the children in a reading program, they were interested in color drawing but it seemed difficult to draw from their imagination. And so many children were trying to copy the illustrations of the book. It is another skill to copy and draw something as one sees, so we gladly accepted their works. They were happy if their drawings were pretty similar to the illustration. At first, such an experience is good, too.
On the contrary, we guess that it might be difficult to imagine the scene that one made up in a sentence and draw it. Nonetheless, we were pleased to see them positively, and joyfully challenging.
