The 2nd game is to create a sentence(s) from certain words. We prepared this game last year but we hadn’t had a chance to introduce it to children; covid pandemic also interfered with our activities.
When actually played, it also seemed quite difficult for children. They drew 2 or 3 cards from the bunch of word cards, being nervous a bit, and as soon as they saw the words they just drew, everyone reacted, "Eh~~~, no way!" Their face was saying, "How can I make a sentence with these words?!" and they were at a loss at first. We needed to wait patiently for everyone to complete his/her first sentence.
We played this game a few years ago in a different support area. Maybe because that area was relatively easy to access to the city compared to this island, the children there were able to form sentences smoothly and created several sentences in a limited time. I think that the amount of information that those children touch every day is different from that of children in this more remote area. I think that children from developed countries will probably make a lot of eccentric, funny and fantastic sentences, since the world that those children have is expanding through books and TV media.
Over here, some of them were able to get the point and create sentences well, while most made just simple ones. Even so, they enjoyed the program itself, laughing at each other's unrealistic sentences. If I try again next time, I hope they will be able to come up with a lot of interesting sentences. I look forward to it.
