There were 4 children who wrote an English letter among all foster children this time. Two children are new, and there are 5 children all together who have written an English letter up until now. We are very happy to see more and more children start to challenge something new.
A girl who had written a letter in English last summer wrote a letter in Khmer this time. I first felt a little disappointed to find her Khmer letter, but this letter was in fact very well written. I understood that she had chosen to write in Khmer in order to fully express herself in the letter.
On the other hand, as for the one among the new English writers this time, she made both English and Khmer letters. She wrote English to the extent that she could, and she wrote more and in detail in Khmer. That’s also a good idea.
These hopeful phenomena have begun to come out because their living areas have been developed and a larger number of children have been able to take English extra classes. Their English writing is not a result of our special program. Yet still, we believe our recognition and encouragement toward those who write in English so far somehow stimulate other children in a positive way. I think it is valuable to raise their challenging spirits.
