We collected letters from our foster children at our visitation day and those letters are being translated right now by supportive volunteers.
First, translations of the short letters written by the newly-selected secondary students returned to me. Now what they had written was revealed. That is, name, birth date, future dream (occupation), and how to spend free time. As for those who wrote how to spend their free time, reading a magazine was in fact the only answer.
What do you do when you get a free time? This seems a simple question. Those who have a lot of hobbies will have many things to write down. But it may be not easy for those who don’t have any special hobby to answer this.
I just suspect if these children really have nothing to do other than reading magazines in their community where the electricity supply is limited. In farming families, children may have to help their family at the time of planting and harvesting. But otherwise, if no livestock to daily take care at home, children may truly have nothing to do at their free time.
But more than anything, how should we interpret this fact that they can’t think of any favorite thing to do every day other than reading magazine? I got somehow mixed feelings…
