From describing pictures

We are preparing pictures to use for a description game. It is for children to practice to verbalize a certain item in as many ways as possible. We make up 2 teams: in one team every individual in order speaks out 1 explanation about a given picture. The other team tries to guess what it is according to those hints.

We are preparing pictures since we had an opinion from a local staff that it would be difficult for children to describe something without actually seeing it. The pictures we are going to use shall be something familiar for children.

When children see a picture, they can think of what they know in his/her actual life or they can describe exactly what is drawn. Both are different ways to practice to explain something. For example when we search an image for a pomegranate, usually very red pomegranates come about. On the other hand the ones sold in a market here seem not to become deep red even they are ripen. One may say “the peel is red,” and other would oppose, “no, it’s yellow.” It’ll be very nice to hear this kind of discussion among children.

When they are giving out some hints, it’s going to be a chance to share some geological knowledge, too, if they bring out the given picture’s producing area. I just got this idea when I looked for an image of shaddock. I’ve heard that shaddocks from Koh Trung island in Kratie province is very delicious.

I wonder what kind of information will come out from one picture. I can’t wait to hear them.
