We visited our foster children. We take photos of the children every time in order to report their parents abroad. Each one of them holds a name card that his/her own & foster parent' name on it- In fact, this name card is simple & monotone, obviously only for a practical purpose. So this time we had a program to decorate the name card with colors to make it more pleasing for children to hold & for their parents to see. We’d been planning to have some art programs, so it was a good opportunity.
We newly prepared more color pens for every child to be able to use colors whenever one wants to, in other words for him/her to freely work on without waiting for a particular color until his/her friend finishes using it. We also appreciate a lot of donations of art materials such as color pencils & crayons.
We had a program before to ask these same children to draw pictures. At that time they tried to draw pictures relating the stories we read for them or relating to the sentences they made up. This time children in general were actively using colors, not just sitting at a loss, either because they've got used to draw something or because there was not a specific theme to draw. It was a good surprise for us.
Of course there are children who are not good at drawing or painting, but only writing their names with their favorite colors is absolutely fine. Our staffs also made an effort to create joyful time for such children, by help sketching what a child requested and coloring together.
