Letters

While about a half of our foster children write short letters to their foster parents, I can’t help noticing that most children write very similar letters just like they copy each other.  Name, grade, how are you, I am fine, weather, and gratitude for the support they get.  And that’s not just one time as their first letters but every time they repeat the same texts.  I wondered how to improve their writing style – or writing skills.

Even in other countries, small child’s letter may be just like this especially at the first few times of his/her writing.  However, being exposed to stories in their school textbooks or other media or conversations with people around, children’s perspective will be gradually broadened and the content of their letters shall be also widened as they keep writing.

On the other hand, over here, their content is the same every time. Even after they move on to secondary schools it doesn’t change. I finally came to reach one answer; this may not be “a litter” but “a thank you note.” And if so, we can or should provide them with opportunities to enhance their writing ability.
