Looking back at the interactive crafts 2 (1)

The 2nd craft is completed by attaching a mechanical part to a mount card, a part where a lid opens when a paper strip is pulled.  The 1st cracker-shaped craft can be enjoyed by itself, while this 2nd craft will not work unless the back of the mechanism part is fixed to something.  Without fixing the part, it will be difficult to pull the strip and the lid will not open.  However, of course, if you paste even the strip to the mount, you will no longer be able to pull it.

All the children were able to complete the mechanical parts properly.  However, after that, though we showed them a sample and explained, "Just apply glue to this part on the back.  And this part will not be pasted on the card,” some children ended up sticking the entire parts to the card.  In fact, the number of such children was noticeably high... This would have been understandable if the target age group was first or second graders, but actually, this mistake was mostly made by older children.  Our staff members were mostly with the younger children and were able to keep a close eye on small graders.  Thus, to be regret, we didn't pay enough attention to the elder graders…

Perhaps they were relieved that they had completed the main work and they lost concentration.  The design is such that a lid opens when you pull a strip and the message inside reveals.  Even if you attach the mechanical part, if the message becomes unreadable because of attaching it, there is no point in sending the card.  But it seems they didn't think that far ahead.

The ability to steadily follow procedures and instructions is a basic skill that we want students to acquire, but the ability to see things from various perspectives and extend one's thinking is not something that can be acquired simply by being taught in words.  I believe it is heavily influenced by experience.  This failure was a shock to us, but it made us want to review our shortcomings in teaching, and without giving up, create more opportunities for the children to continue to gain experience.
