This craftwork program was carried out with a cooperation of volunteer participants from abroad. I entrusted them with the progress of the program. I hope some foster parents can also join us and communicate with their children in the future.
With an idea from the motherly volunteer members we changed our program a little bit when we sew some children had a difficulty to cut a 4-folded paper. Omitting a process to let children make symmetrical shapes freely, we let them paste what they created so far on a mount. It doesn’t matter if what they created was symmetrical or not. This was based on an idea to tell those children that what they had done was not a “mistake” but just a “process” and that they didn’t need to get disappointed. Actually the progress of the program was significantly delayed from our original schedule at that time.

So all the children joyfully started to use glues and to paste. Everyone looked very happy with what they made eventually, which made us happy, too.
But…next time I am willing to take enough time to be with those who cannot cut a 4-folded paper well and to make sure together what is wrong. It should be also a precious experience for children to succeed what they couldn’t succeed before. And further, I definitely want them to create more and more complicated shapes freely according to their imagination.
Originally we put a lot of concepts into this craftwork program, but creating a 3D was too much. We will work over our plan to focus only on to deal with color papers next time.
