Stimulation from friends

When practicing writing, we basically don't want children to copy each other's writings. They don't have to be afraid of making mistakes and don't have to be nervous because it's not a test. If they are not good at it, we want them to use this opportunity to practice. So, when we ask them to write something, we always tell them not to copy others.

Nonetheless, the one who cares about what other friends write is a child who does not know what to write. Such a child tries to know from others because he/she doesn't know by him/herself. So we are not too much strict even if we find some similarities among children's writings. Even if one imitated others, if the child realized "oh I see, I can write such a thing, I should write like this," and added his/her own words and expressions to the original, we shall evaluate it.

And this time, it seems that our foster children were writing while interacting among their friends to some extent, and actually this cased something good. Some children, though their writings were very short and simple before, made somehow deeper essays. Of course, the theme is different each time, but I can see that the children were inspired by the content written by their nearby friends as well as by elder brothers and sisters.

From this fall, the number of foster children who we can support has increased, and the number of children participating in our activity has increased. I think it’s good that the circle where children can share good stimuli has grown.
