Our foster children created New Year greeting cards in January.
We’ve already introduced to them about the foreign custom (in the US, Japan etc.) of exchanging greetings seasonally in our previous activity, and so this was the 2nd opportunity for them to experience it.
As usual, we wanted to use this opportunity to let children get more used to write, and hence we asked them to write on their postcards ① the most memorable experience from last year's events and ② goals for this year. As for ①, we asked them to write in detail such as when, where, with whom, what they did, and what they thought and felt, so that the readers could understand the situation.
And at the end, we asked them to design a New Year card in each child's own way with color pencils. Not so many children drew rabbits, the animal of the year, but I feel our children overall have gotten pretty used to drawing trees, flowers, and other things by using colors.
